Mary Lou Williams, Storyteller, held her audience spellbound at the January 8 meeting. She presented a storytelling concert where she dramatized five stories, all united by the overall theme of love. Wearing her storytelling garb of patchwork quilt skirt and peasant blouse, and using simple props, she transported us to a simpler time, before we begin to depend on movies and TV to keep us entertained.

Mary Lou writes her own stories, combining fairy tale and legend with modern idiom. She smoothly blended prince charming and the wicked witch with cell phones and iPods into an enchanting storytelling brew.

If you would like to be part of the reviving art form of storytelling, join the Tamiami Tale Tellers, who meet each month on the third Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Grand Court on College Parkway, Ft. Myers.
