Papa Panovich, the old village shoemaker, is alone on Christmas Eve and he would be alone on Christmas Day. He falls asleep on Christmas Eve reading the story of the first Christmas He is awakened by an angel who tells him that Jesus will visit him the next day. He decides to prepare a gift for his visitor. But the gift depends on the form in which Jesus will visit him. Will he come as a little baby, as on that first Christmas Day? Will he come as the young boy who had taught the elders in the temple? Will he come as a grown man, the carpenter? Will he come as a great king, the Son of God? Papa Panovich does not know; so he prepares a gift for Jesus in whichever form he should appear. Jesus does visit Papa Panovich on Christmas Day, but he comes in a form that Papa Panovich never expected.
